Come to the Oxford Literary Festival…

January 14, 2013

Springtime beneath the dreaming spires… what better way to spend a Saturday in March than at the Oxford Literary Festival? Am lucky enough to be joining Matthew Reynolds, Tim Leach and Kerry Young at a ‘Writers’ Round Table’ (chaired by Rachel Hore) on 23rd March at 2pm at the Bodleian. Come see the jousting — […]

Good to see Sidney Chambers in there too: no religious festival would be complete without his genial company… http://itsacrimeuk.wordpress.com/2012/12/16/a-book-a-day-for-12-days-of-christmas-crimeficreaders-selection-part-2/

‘Next Big Thing’ questionnaire…

December 12, 2012

Back in the late 90s, I was a sports reporter for a university paper called ‘The Oxford Student’, a slightly downmarket, tabloid sister of the more established ‘Cherwell’ (and more entertaining for it, we hoped). The editor of the paper was one Katy Darby, who has since gone on to publish a blockbuster Victorian romp called ‘The Whores’ Asylum’, […]

December 11, 2012

Battersea Library on Lavender Hill have offered to host an exclusive ‘Shadow of the Rock’ talk on 6th March 2013 at 630pm. Given the closeness to the release date of ‘Sign of the Cross’, snippets of Spike’s latest adventure will be thrown in too. It’s a great library, incidentally — bright, airy — and, talk or no talk, I can highly […]

Good Thame had by all…

October 16, 2012

The good times rolled last Saturday at the Thame Literary Festival. Incredibly friendly organising team escorted me and the brilliant Kay Langdale (http://www.kaylangdale.com/) onto the stage of the local church hall, where we were compassionately interviewed by Charlie Lee-Potter (check out her food blog — http://eggsontheroof.com/). Was delighted — at last — to be able to wear […]

‘Shadow…’ provokes US web ire…

October 1, 2012

‘Shadow of the Rock’ has upset the sensibility of the American website ‘Compass Book Ratings’. Formerly known as ‘Squeaky Clean Reads’, the site rates books in terms of suitability for different age groups, and has deemed ‘Shadow…’  for over- 21s only. The reviewer has painstakingly unearthed ‘9 religious exclamations; 6 mild obscenities; 3 religious profanities; 2 derogatory names; 7 scatological words; […]
