Given all the recent hoo-hah about Gibraltar-Spain relations going down the pan, it’s easy to forget that the Rock’s first ever literary festival is about to take place, in which a number of prominent Spanish writers will be speaking. Is this a sign that the literary world rises above such petty political squabbles? Or that most authors are so amazed that anyone wants to hear them talk that they’ll say yes to almost anything? The former, or course… Incidentally, I too will be there, appearing on Oct 26 with excellent fellow novelists Jason Webster and Robert Daws to talk about ‘Crime in the Sun’. Come out to the Rock! Take the Spike Sanguinetti walking tour! (actually, it may be safer not to.) Tickets available below…

Wish I could be on the Rock, my childhood home, for this festival. Just finished reading ‘Shadow of the Rock’, drawn to its title, because one of my old class mates, Susan Jackson, wrote a book about Methodist history there, with a similar sounding title! But I’m talking about the sixties at ‘The Rest is Noise’ festival, Southbank Centre, London on 26th. Have a great time Thomas, and write some more Spike stories based on the Rock, please.
Many thanks, Richenda. Equally sorry to miss your talk — sounds intriguing. Will raise a glass on the Rock to you and Susan Jackson and overlapping titles! Tom
